EyeTV 2.3 review
By booyaabooyaabooyaa | July 29, 2006
Downloaded EyeTV 2.3 yesterday after reading about it in TUAW.
The install was bog standard stuff, ditch the existing EyeTV application, drop the new one into the Application folder. I didn’t need to fish out my license key, it just upgraded in place with everything (recordings, schedules and channel list) in tact.
The thing that caught my eye was Front Row integration. I just assumed that Elgato had made a look a like menu system, nope you click the menu button on your Front Row remote and you get the following:
Holy cow! It’s really integrated with Front Row! This is like a dream come true! All my recordings, live TV and a full screen EPG that I can read from the sofa - controlled through one remote!
Whilst the recordings menu has truncated description and thumbnail (if generated)…
…selecting a recording brings up the full description.
The EPG is colour coded based on the type of programme: movies, current affairs, comedy etc.
I did notice the integration was smart, the EyeTV Front Row menu only kicks in if the EyeTV app is selected. Also at the end of the main menu there’s an option to go to the real Front Row.
So far I haven’t found anything to dislike with this upgrade.
