My first race: 5K
By booyaa | December 2, 2006
I just completed my first race this morning. The ever popular Bushy Park Time Trial was my venue of choice. I recommend you get there by car or bike as the trek from the Teddington gate is about a 1,000 metres (great for warming up though).
Registration was painless (and free), although it’s not the tables at the entrance of the car park, that’s where you pick up your token! It was easy to spot who was involved in the race because they were all wearing BPTT fleeces and their names.
It was a very friendly crowd of people, but it was nice to have my support team (Lou) along cheering me from the start, midway and end.
The actual race was pretty good, I had a nice steady start. I seem to lose pace 3/4 the way
I had hoped for a sprint at the last 1000 metre, but I had ran out of steam.
After getting a free cup of sports drink it was time to get some warmer clothes on. Lou had a fantastic idea of getting bacon roll and tea, which hit the spot!
This is a very friendly event, would recommend it to any first time runners. I can’t wait to run my next one!
When the official times are up I’ll update the post, but for now I’ve beaten my previous 5K best of 26:50 by almost 2 minutes 44 seconds!
Update: I came 157 out of 227. With a new personal best of 25:18 (my Nike+ is a bit generous on timing it would appear.
Here are some pictures from the race:
One of the priceless images of the race, a man running his a dog and another with the push chair. Don’t laugh too hard, these guys were at the front!
