N95 mini review
By booyaa | August 3, 2007
AKA What’s the deal with all these test posts?
A few weeks ago I bought an Nokia N95. I’ve spent a lot of time on playing around with its capabilites. I like the 5MP camera, whilst it won’t replace my existing Fuji FinePix F10 it’s handy to have around. And when GPS works (via Sports Tracker) I can geotag my photos in Flickr (via ShoZu)!
The WLAN/WiFi works like a charm. And surfing the web in landscape mode is sweet! I tried Opera Mobile, but to be honest the built in browser is coping with most of the sites I visit.
I’ve also been enjoying watching video podcasts, although my attempts to transcode EyeTV recordings have resulted in a 3/4 cm border around the video, which on a small screen is a crime!
At the moment I’ve been busy trying to get photo and blog posting working. The LifeBlog app seems to use some kinda ATOM based publishing, which means it won’t work out of the box with WordPress. Eventually I went using Flickr’s blogging tool for photo blogging.
For plain ole blogging, I’m using a WordPress plugin called Postie, which retrieves your posts via IMAP or POP server. I then email the posts using my Gmail client on the phone.
Over the next few months I would like to get following working:
- Video/Audio streaming to the phone.
- Native instant message and email
- Lots of emulators: C64, Gameboy, Speccy, etc
- Using the IR to turn the phone into a universal remote.
Reference
- Mac software for Nokia phone
- Geotagging with Nokia, FlickR and ShoZu
- Post to WordPress using LifeBlog
- Postie - Blog Post By Email (a WordPress plugin)
