Training log: Long 8 miles @ 9:48/mile pace
By booyaa | September 2, 2007
My first run with the Garmin Forerunner 305. I just went out, didn’t bother with a training programme, so I just hit the start button when I got a GPS signal. Which by the way, took a lot longer than I wanted, we’re talking a few minutes versus the 30-60 second claim by Garmin. Admittedly it was overcast, but this was in leafy Surbiaton (sic) not pack ‘em in high street London so I expected a GPS lock fairly sharpish.
Anyhoo..I should have read the manual because it looks like the auto-splitting thing didn’t work or wasn’t set (gives WarriorWoman the “help me?!” look). The result of which I didn’t get any pretty mile split charts in SportsTrack.
I’ve managed to rig up SportTracks via VMWare session and will probably stick to with it when I’m doing purdy graphs and running routes. I keep hoping that Eric@RunningAhead.com will bring out his GPS upload tool. And there’s also Garmin’s acquisition of MotionBased and subsequent rebranding as GarminConnect to look forward to.
For now heres my Speed vs Heart Rate and the obligatory Nike+ graphs
Update: thanks to Angela I’m now able to bring you a few more graphs splits and also ratio to which I ran and jogged. A bit of an eye opener if you ask me!
The red is where I slacked off and started jogging
Apparel: dri fit shorts and shirt (black), 1000 mile socks
Temp: Perfect, just a slight breeze.
Splits: 9:06 9:19 9:33 9:01 9:58 10:09 9:59 10:07

Oh you’re ok, you can still get the splits to show up in Sporttracks:
Click on the little arrow on the summary box and select splits.
Now mine is already set at kilometres but click on whatever arrow is showing and you can select a range of options like custom distance, custom time etc.
There you go….lovely split charts.
