ever since i saw my first machinima i’ve wanted to create my own. i almost bought the movies, a game that really does what it says on the tin and let’s you make machinima movies (think a totally scripted version of the sims). luckily, i discovered you could make your own machinima using half-life 2 and a mod (game add on) called garry’s mod (aka gmod).

gmod is the invention of an enterprising young chappy called garry newman, basically he’s created a sandbox which allows you to place an object from any valve game (provided you own it) into any construct (map) you want!

whilst i’m still a long way from making a full blown movie, it’s my intention to start with single scenes, graduate to comic strips and then eventually move onto animation. so without further a do here’s my gmod equivalent of hello world.

my gmod equivalent of hello world

it took ages to get the rag dolls in the right positions. i’m still not happy with them. the uncanny factor is off the scale, but it’s a start. i’d also like to apologise to the gmod community as i’ve performed classic faux pas by using the gm_construct map which is the equivalent of writing a word document in times new roman. i promise to never do it again. honest.

in case you’re wondering barney fumbles the water melon and the two citizens flatten him.
